Bilge Pump Issue:
July 2009

Pop Machine
We as a club just voted in a by-law change to increase our dues. Though no one enjoys most any increase in cost, sometimes it is necessary. We have enjoyed the absolute lowest pop machine price of $ .50 for a long time. It is now time for an increase to $ .75, as our product cost has gone up for a couple of reasons. We have been purchasing our pop at Sam’s Club by way of myself driving there and purchasing pop and bringing it back to the club. Sam’s Club has begun the process of phasing out some of their 12 oz. can items and going to larger plastic bottles which will not work in our pop machine. It’s gotten to the point that sometimes I have had to travel to the Aurora store to find they do not have the needed item in stock and then, drive all the way to the Renton store and sometimes being lucky enough to find the product in stock and other times not. The other problem is Sam’s new computer system. It will not properly recognize our re-sale status. Every time I visit Sam’s I have to spend 30 – 40 minutes straightening out the problem. Aside from no product, this has become way too time consuming.

We have decided to purchase pop product from the Pepsi-Cola & Coca Cola companies. We could have leased a new, bigger machine from one of the two companies but, we would have to stock only that company’s product. An assessment was made that our current machine, owned by QCYC, will last a number more years. We will simply purchase directly from Pepsi-Cola & Coca-Cola and they will deliver. We will be able therefore to stock product sold by both companies in our machine. The only difference in product will be after current supplies run out, Sprite and Sprite Zero will replace 7 up and Diet 7 up. Instead of A & W Root Beer, we will stock Mug Root Beer.

The reason for the increase in price believe it or not is that, by purchasing directly from the manufacturer rather than Sam’s Club, depending on quantities ordered, our per can price increases from $ .18 to $ .31 per can.

Friday Lunch
Though our Club Chef Willie Williamson has decided not to offer Saturday brunch during the months of July & August, he has elected to continue Friday lunch service during those two normally slow months. We will in conjunction with Willie’s Friday lunch, keep the bar open during the months of July & August.

As an incentive to patronize the bar, we are going to have a variation of a raffle. Gary Stone donated a Dunato’s haulout gift certificate for any vessel up to 50 feet in length. The certificate expires on December 31, 2009. Beginning Friday, July 3rd, and continuing through Friday, August 28th, with the purchase of each bar beverage, you will be given one raffle ticket. The drawing will be held during the first September monthly meeting on September 9, 2009. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!

Enjoy your summer!!!!!
