2. Vice Commodore's Report

Bilge Pump Issue:
October 2009

VICE COMMODORE’S REPORT

By the time this Bilge Pump comes out we will have a new Commodore, Ed Jennerich, and I will be finishing some of his projects as he will be completing Past Commodore Dale Roberts’. What you see is a continued effort by the AAC, Planning and Finance, Board of Directors and changing officers of the Bridge to maintain, improve and protect our club.

DOCKS
The roof membrane replacements are complete and we won’t see budget money going to those for a number of years, yeah! We are always working on planking, pilings and supports and these costs do continue every year. Thank your Docks Committee volunteers for their continuous efforts in maintaining these facilities. Their efforts keep our costs down so we don’t have to hire this work done. For 2009/2010 the Docks Committee will be working on fire suppression to include fire curtains, continued signage improvements, fire extinguishers and hoses; and the big one is bringing piping to the docks. I’ll keep you informed as we progress.

HOUSE
As I write this article the new Ships Store is being completed and it looks great. This should make it a lot easier to see the merchandise we have for our members. Nice job on that one.

We’re working on improving the lighting on the 3rd floor. We have meeting, dinners and dancing in the same room which makes an interesting challenge to make it functional but also warm and inviting. We have a lighting consultant making some suggestions/recommendations and the AAC is adding their input. After seeing the results from the Winslow lighting changes we’re shooting for the same dramatic improvements.

WINSLOW OUTSTATION
This past weekend, Labor Day, Nancy and I spent 4 nights at Winslow (John can check the log) and while we were there our Board Chairman, Mark Weiss, tied to the end of dock “B” and realized that it was sinking and the cleats were pulling loose. His comment was that we should replace it or condemn it, so we have received a price to replace it with an approximate 10% discount if completed by the end of February 2010. Planning and Finance has recommended that the board fund this project, so we’re moving ahead on this.

You will be seeing a Volunteer Signup form included with your October billing. Please take time to add your name to at least one of the choices and return it to us. Your help keeps our club a jewel of the northwest.
