Commodores Ball

Bilge Pump Issue:
November 2007

The 2007 Queen City Yacht Club Commodore Ball honoring our Commodore Bill McGillin and First Lady Cammy Mowery was a great success this year! There were approximately 120 people in attendance and everyone seemed to have a grand time.

I want to thank my Core Committee consisting of Jodie Russell, Kathy Fish and Nancy Austin. All three of these ladies really helped me to execute my vision of this years’ function. All three helped out on numerous occasions to both plan and put up decorations.

On Friday, September 28th  in addition to the core committee,  I had help putting up the many stars in the rafters from Dorothy Dubia, Misti Allison, Dorothy Cooper, Sharon Benyon, Kathy Montgomery, Diana Kleinberger and Arlene Oberg – Thank You ladies for interrupting your game of Mexican Train to help me out. I know what a sacrifice this was and I appreciate all your help!

Friday Oct 5th was the day to set the tables and decorate the 3rd floor. Many thanks to the ladies already mentioned and to Carol Soffel, who directed the setting of all the tables. Carol also helped on Sat Oct 6th to set up the 2nd floor for the cocktail hour. And thanks again to my core committee! If I have forgotten anyone….I apologize.

Many last minute details were worked out by Jodie Russell, Kathy Fish and Nancy Austin. I just couldn’t have survived without these three ladies! All three have been so supportive to me over the last few months….I’m really very lucky to have such dear friends. Oh and did I mention to everyone that Jodie did all of the flower arrangements?

Thanks to Cary Gould, Linda & Jerry Dishneau and Pat Rubish for tending bar. This event can really keep those bar tenders busy and these four are always ready to help out our club.

To Willie, Peg and the whole galley crew….thanks so much for a job well done! Even though many people changed their food order at the last minute, Willie managed to get everyone fed.

I also want to mention P/C Rich and Christine McCroskey. Both Rich and Chris answered so many of my questions over the last few months (and there were lots). Their support is really appreciated. They also helped to check-in everyone and direct all of the guests to their assigned tables.

Thanks to Rich and all the Past Commodores that helped to pour wine to all of our special Grand XIV guests.

Thank you P/C Dave Krows for arranging to have the Limo deliver our Commodore and First Lady to the ball.

In closing I want to tell everyone that I really, really appreciate all your help, support and friendship this past year.  I really can’t thank you all enough.

Crystal Yates - with lots of support from Bob.

P.S. Thank you P/C Daryl Anhalt for helping out with some of the special lighting!
