The Tarettes were organized in 1943 at the request of then Commodore A.F. “Tony” Sulak and our first elected president, Alta Gruber. The name derived from the word, "tar," a reference to "sailor", therein the spouses of the captains became known as the Tarettes. Initially, this womens group was a satisfying social club during wartime. From that spark almost 70 years ago, we have evolved within our yacht club’s family to not only promote life long friendships, but to establishing tangible contributions to the enrichment and well being of Queen City Yacht Club.

Every year, the Tarettes host many fun events, such as: the September Steak Fry, the November Friday Night Social, the December Captain's Dinner, the March Celebration Tea, the Opening Day Sunday Breakfast serving, and the June Yard Sale and Taco and Tequila Night. We also host memorial services for QCYC family members. Philanthropic efforts fund over $3000 annually to our surrounding communities, in addition to hands- on involvement. As an auxiliary of QCYC, we contribute $2,000 each year to our club’s facility needs.

We are a women’s organization and, as such, attend regular Women's Interclub Council, or WIC, luncheons, nurturing much valued Grand 14 relationships. We also proudly pledge our support in assisting the QCYC officers, for the good and well-being of our club and its members.

Overall, we believe in celebrating each other, as well as, our efforts to make a positive difference.
