CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Grimm called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice Commodore Yates led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore McGillin recognized P/C Wes Mauldin as the senior member in attendance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read a thank-you note from Lois Odland, thanking the Club for the use of the Bainbridge Island outstation for a celebration of Captain Tom Odland’s life.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: None.
NOMINATIONS FOR ’06-’07: P/C Rich McCroskey introduced the Nominating Committee’s candidates for the upcoming year: For the Board of Trustees, Captains Nick Castrow and Scott Smith; for Treasurer, Captain John Rogers; for Secretary, Captain Eric Wood; for Rear Commodore, Captain Dale Roberts, for Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore Bill McGillin; for Commodore, Vice Commodore Bob Yates.
INITIATION: Membership Chairman Ed Jennerich presided over the initiation of Captains Gregg Scott, Scott Cameron, and Scott McPhee, all of whom were sponsored by Captain George Austin.
EIGHT-BELL CEREMONY: Chaplain Ken Klett presided over an eight-bell ceremony for Captain Tom Odland, who passed away March 20 at age 69. Captain Odland’s wife of 47 years, Lois, and son Tim were present.
COMMODORE: Commodore Grimm reported on the Daffodil Festival at Tacoma Yacht Club, thanked P/C Dave Krows for his work in organizing Opening Day festivities, and noted that Mother’s Day Brunch will be served at the Club. Further, he reported that the permit to allow eradication of milfoil is expected to be issued on May 4, and the eight week treatment should give three years’ protection.
The Commodore also told attendees that the Club would be joining the Northwest Marine Trade Association, to which most local marinas and Clubs belong. Finally, he described the Memorial Day event at Bainbridge Island, which will be family oriented and for which reservations will be required.
VICE COMMODORE: Vice Commodore Yates reported on a successful Pride of Queen City work party, and thanked participants and donors. He stated that some dock repairs will require Fire Department approval, so will be starting later than planned. Last, he reminded attendees of the upcoming Junior Officer’s Ball.
REAR COMMODORE: Rear Commodore McGillin asked those members who have volunteered their assistance to the Club in a variety of ways, which he recounted separately, to stand and be recognized; virtually all attendees were on their feet by the conclusion.
TREASURER: Treasurer Steve Farber, speaking directly to the Commodore, stated “We still have money in the bank and I applaud you in your restraint.”
BOARD OF TRUSTEES: Chairman Gary Stone reported that work continues on the topics raised at the recent planning session, including raising the roofs on the docks.
OPENING DAY: Chairman and P/C Dave Krows described the new-this-year coordination of events with Seattle Yacht Club, and stated that 77 boats were expected in to our facilities.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
FLEET CAPTAIN: V/C Bob Yates, on behalf of the Fleet Captain, presented Captain Harris Johnson with a screw-up flag for his vessel, after his helmsman, Captain Ray Meyers, fell asleep at the helm on a Friday lunch cruise. The Commodore noted that the Big Brother Cruise would be June 24-25 at Bainbridge Island, to be hosted by the Bremerton Yacht Club.
REGATTA POWER: Captain Bob Lindal noted the May 12 Poulsbo event.
DOCKS: Captain Art Mauldin thanked those who participated in the recent work party, and noted that Captains Andy Foster and Mike Duncan have joined the Docks Committee. He called out the assistance the Committee has received from Captains Dave Svendsen and Denny Roehl.
HOUSE: Captain Jim Damery reported painting was underway on Dock 3 under the control of Captain Jess Hill.
MEMBERSHIP: Chairman Ed Jennerich reported that 23 new members have been initiated YTD, and reminded attendees of the new members “lotto.”
FOURTH OF JULY CRUISE: Captain Dale Roberts described the upcoming event, and asked for volunteers to help Susie, Mike and Kathy Fish, and him with the event.
OTHER: Captain Karen McLean advised members that Meydenbauer Yacht Club will be conducting a “Skipper Saver” course soon, for those interested.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
RECEPTION: R/C McGillin again recognized P/C Wes Mauldin as the senior member in attendance; Captain Chuck Gould was the junior member in attendance. 60 members were present along with several spouses and guests. Nine Past Commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Captain Scott Cameron pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Art Mauldin and Chris Benson won Friday lunches, and Captain Bill Fields won the quarter pot.
