CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Yates called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1932 hours - two minutes late because the Secretary was not at his place.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commodore Yates led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore Roberts recognized Captain Dave Nelson as the senior member in attendance.

READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read letters of withdrawal from Captains Howard Steepy and Terry Wambaugh, both of which were approved by the membership. He read a thank-you letter from Captain Lisa Steffan relative to her father’s remembrance at a Club meeting.

INITIATION: Membership Chairman Mark LaFountaine presided over the initiation of Captain Jim Hess; a number of audience members, including Captain Hess’s father-in-law, questioned whether it was a smart thing to do.

SPECIAL ELECTION / INDUCTION: P/C Scott Grimm, representing the Nominating Committee, introduced Captain Mark Weiss as a nominee for the vacant Board of Trustees position. As there were no other nominations and the floor vote was unanimous, the Secretary declared by acclimation that Captain Weiss was approved. P/C and Board Chairman Jeff Ewell inducted Captain Weiss onto the Board.

COMMODORE: Commodore Yates reported on the Club decorating party, led by Carol Soffel, and thanked the participants. He noted the Seattle Yacht Club’s Commodore’s Ball, a successful Special People’s Cruise with 160 guests and about 30 boats, the Lighted Boat Parade led by Captain Al Reiche, and the Children’s Christmas Party directed by Sandy Werner.

REAR-COMMODORE: Rear Commodore Roberts reported that there will be a 3-hour grounds clean up on Saturday, February 10, to be directed by P/C Rich McCroskey. The Junior Yacht Club meeting will be on December 16 at 9 AM. Also, he encouraged members to sign a get-well card being circulated for Captain Richard Best.

TREASURER: Treasurer John Rogers reported that the Club is on budget YTD, and gave a dissertation on the 10 bank accounts at 6 institutions which are part of the Club’s operations.

FLEET CAPTAIN: Captain Dick Storey reported that there will be a President’s Day cruise to the Bainbridge Outstation; information will be in the Bilge Pump.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

REGATTA POWER: Captain Dave Padgett reported that the 1st of the Season Race will be on January 13 or 14, depending on the Seahawks, and requested observers.

MEMBERSHIP: Chairman Mark LaFountaine reported that the Club has 366 active members, with three waiting to be initiated. He introduced Captain Kimberly Foote, in the audience, as a prospective member, and reminded attendees of the new member “lotto.”

WEB: Captain Kyle Bixby reported that the transition to a new server has been made – it is much faster, and the cost is the same.

DOCKS: Captain Dave Svendsen reported that Waterfront Construction will resume piling cap work next week, on Dock 3.

NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY: P/C Larry Chmela reported that the event will start at 6 PM, Willie will do the meal, and that Rain City Riff-Raff has been engaged as the band. Attendees need to be paid up by December 26.

OLD BUSINESS: None.

NEW BUSINESS: None.

RECEPTION: R/C Roberts again recognized Captain Dave Nelson as the senior member in attendance and Captain Kristy Foote as the junior member in attendance. 49 members were present with one guest. Six past commodores were present and recognized. 

QUARTER POT: Prospective member Kimberly Foote pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Steve Farber and Gordon Foote won Friday lunches, and Captain Jerry Dishneau won the quarter pot.

GOOD & WELFARE: Captain Jess Hill cajoled new member Captain Jim Hess into buying a round of drinks downstairs.

The meeting was adjourned at exactly 2030 hours and, in a public display of his appreciation, the Secretary planted a buss on each of the Commodore’s cheeks.
