CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Grimm called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1930 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice Commodore Yates led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as amended.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore McGillan recognized P/C Dean Lentgis as the senior member in attendance.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read a notification regarding the Montlake Waterfront Park Community Meeting, to be held February 25 at the main clubhouse.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: None.
PROGRAM: Captain Dee Dee May introduced Captain Dan Wilshin, who showed a vert entertaining DVD of one portion of an Alaskan cruise last summer.
INITIATION: Chairman Ed Jennerich presided over the initiation of Captains Donald Johnson, John Blystone, Lawrence Dubya, and Chris Benson.
COMMODORE: Commodore Grimm reported that on March 26 from 1PM – on there will be a “membership roundtable,” the purpose of which is to solicit ideas from members regarding long-term planning issues and opportunities. Following the approximately 3-hour session, there will be a burger bash.
VICE COMMODORE: Vice Commodore Yates reported that the new hydraulic lift on the dock was installed and is operational, and that Tiffany Sannes is now working in the office from 10AM till 4PM daily. Also, he noted that the theme of the upcoming Junior Officer’s Ball will be “The Psychedelic ‘60’s.”
REAR COMMODORE: Rear Commodore McGillan solicited help for the completion of the concrete post and chain project one week from Saturday, and noted that sprucing up for Spring and Opening Day was commencing. He encouraged members to read the Bilge Pump on-line, as well as to update their personal info. Last, he noted the April 29 dinner with the Junior Officers of the “Grand 14.”
TREASURER: Treasurer Steve Farber, in his shortest report ever, said “All the invoices are paid” and sat down.
FLEET CAPTAIN: Fleet Captain Paul Grimm reported on the February 17-20 Bremerton Heavy Weather Cruise, at which the Club won first prize for the skit. He reminded attendees of the March 17-18 St. Patrick’s Day cruise, the April 21-23 Daffodil cruise to Tacoma Yacht Club, and the Lake Washington Poker Run one week after Opening Day.
Last, the Fleet Captain awarded screw-up flags to Captain George Austin (for losing his first one) and P/C Dean Lentgis (for running a predicted log race with his fenders flapping).
COMMITTEE REPORTS
REGATTA POWER: P/C Jeff Ewell reported results of the Bremerton Heavy Weather Race, and noted upcoming races: Meydenbauer’s Boomerang Race on March 4, the Novice & Old Timer’s Race on March 17-19, and the April 1st QCYC/SYC Eagle Harbor Race. He reminded attendees that those who participate in both the Race and the Outstation Work Party the following weekend will be allowed to leave their boats at the Outstation for the week.
OPENING DAY: P/C Dave Krows noted that Opening Day is really a week-long event. He described many of those events, which begin on Wednesday, and noted that sign-up sheets for volunteers are downstairs.
OUTSTATION: Chairman Eric Wood reminded members of the April 8-9 work party, and thanked Captains Chris and Nick Castrow, and Randy White, for their work installing a new washer and dryer at the Bainbridge Outstation.
HOUSE: Captain Jim Damery reminded members that as the used oil tank gets full, please call the phone number on the tank, so it will be emptied.
VISITATION: The Commodore reported that Captain Eldon Johnson and P/C John Clark both passed away recently.
OTHER:
Captain Jess Hill discussed the 1st Annual Steak, Scotch, and Cigar Night on February 25. Prepayment is required, and the scotch tasting will begin at 6:00PM, with dinner scheduled for about 7:30PM.
P/C Lynn Montgomery discussed the March 15-17 Laughlin Land Cruise, in its fifth year. The event usually draws over 50 people, with a jet boat tour among this year’s activities.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
RECEPTION: R/C McGillan again recognized P/C Dean Lentgis as the senior member in attendance; Captain Andy Gerde was the junior member in attendance. 46 members were present along with several spouses and guests. Seven Past Commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Captain Lawrence Dubya pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Kent Soffel and Paul Grimm won Friday lunches, and Captain Dave Svendsen won the quarter pot.
