Minutes of the Regular Meeting on January 9, 2008

CALL TO ORDER:  Commodore McGillin called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:  Vice-Commodore Roberts led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION:  Vice-Commodore Roberts recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance.

READING OF THE MINUTES:  Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.

CORRESPONDENCE:  The Secretary read a thank you letter from a Special People’s Cruise attendee, a letter from the Northwest Marine Trade Association re: the upcoming Boat Show, a letter from Tarette’s President Misti Allison requesting reconsideration of the proximity card access policy, a thank you note from the Boyer Children’s Clinic for the Club’s $2,500 donation, and letters of reciprocity from the Port Orchard, Corinthian, Fircrest, and Port Ludlow Yacht Clubs.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP:  An application for membership was received from Captain Steve Holmes, who was present and recognized.

INITIATION:  Membership Chairman Mark LaFountaine presided over the initiation of Captains Ryan Garvie and Steve Jones.

COMMODORE:  Commodore McGillin thanked P/C Rich and Chris McCroskey for a great New Year’s party, reminded members to get input re: mail-in balloting to him, and noted some errors in the printed version of the Bilge Pump.

He highlighted several upcoming events, including:
•    Jan. 19 Chili Cook-Off
•    Jan. 26 Martini Madness
•    Feb. 8 Sweetheart’s Dinner
•    Feb. 9 grounds work party

VICE-COMMODORE:  Vice Commodore Roberts thanked Captain Jim Damery and Carol Soffel for their work on the clubhouse over the Holidays.  He reported that the dock inspection program will begin the following weekend, and piling cap work is expected to begin mid-February.

REAR-COMMODORE:  Vice-Commodore Roberts, on behalf of Rear-Commodore Jennerich, reported that the winter grounds clean-up will be held Feb. 9, under the guidance of Captain Linda Roehl; lunch will be provided.

Also, the security system is being updated under the guidance of Captains Dick Geving and Craig Ranta.

TREASURER:  Treasurer John Rogers reported that the Club is current on all bills.  He gave a heart-wrenching story about the difficulty of reconciling the Club’s cash accounts, down to the penny; the Secretary pointed out that a brand-new car was sitting in the Treasurer’s parking space.

FLEET CAPTAIN:  Fleet Captain Paul Grimm reported on the upcoming Chili Cook-off, to be held somewhere in the Lake, the February Bremerton Heavy Weather Cruise, and the March St. Patrick’s Day Cruise / Poker Run.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

REGATTA  POWER:    Captain Bob Lindal noted the 1st of the Season Race in one week, to include a Friday night burger bash and Saturday night dinner.

520 COMMITTEE:  Captain Gary Stone reported on the 3rd meeting of the larger “interested parties” group, where 14 options were presented.

CLUB MANAGER:  Treasurer John Rogers reported that income from the bar is $8K  to date, versus $3K budgeted.

DOCKS:  Captain Randy Garvie reported that scrap iron would be removed the next week, and requested some assistance.

MOORAGE:  P/C Scott Grimm reported on the status of slips at the main station, and again reminded mooring members to update their registrations and insurance.

OUTSTATION:  Outstation Boss Captain Barbara Wood displayed a plaque from the Bainbridge Police Department presented to the Club for its support, noted new wireless microphones installed by Captain Craig Ranta, and reported that the new ovens and freezer will soon be installed.

OTHER REPORTS:
 
Captain Scott and Tracy McPhee invited attendees to the Saturday, Jan. 26, 6-10 PM, “Martini Madness” event.  Reservations are required by Wednesday, Jan. 23, and dress will be cocktail attire.

Captain Bob and Stephanie Marcelynas invited attendees to the Friday, Feb. 8 “Sweetheart’s Dinner,” which will include a dinner catered by Willie and dancing.  The specialty drink will be a Cosmopolitan;  reservations are required by Friday, Jan. 25.

Captain Chuck Gould reported on RBAW activities, and encouraged members to get their legislators to the Monday, February 4 meeting at Anthony’s in Olympia.

Captain Art Mauldin asked for volunteers to participate in the dock inspection work to begin early the following weekend, and to take 2-3 weekends to complete.

Captain Tim Rutledge described the Junior Yacht Club – its function, activities, organizational structure, and tax status implications.  In ’08 the Club’s summer Boating Camp is looking for 40 participants between the ages of 7-17 to learn boating and sailing basics, at a cost of $275/week.  A flyer was distributed to attendees.

Margaret Krows described “Support the Troops, Phase II,” which has a goal to send something along in February in the same vein as last year’s successful event.

OLD BUSINESS:  None.

NEW BUSINESS:  Captain Steve Farber offered comments in support of the Tarette’s letter re: proximity card access.

RECEPTION: V/C Roberts again recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance and Captain Bill Conley as the junior member in attendance.  56 members signed in, and 3 Past Commodores were present and recognized. 

QUARTER POT: Dorothy Dubia pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot.  Captains Gordy Foote and Gary Stone won Friday lunches, and Captain Mark Weiss won the quarter pot.

GOOD AND WELFARE:  Was supplied by Captain Chris Castro.

The meeting was adjourned at 2115 hours.
