CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Grimm called the inaugural “dinner meeting” to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice Commodore Yates led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore McGillin recognized Past Commodore Wes Mauldin as the senior member in attendance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: In the interest of saving time, and in acknowledgement of the Secretary’s heretofore flawless work, the minutes of the previous meeting were approved without their being read by unanimous vote.
INITIATION: Captain Robert Murphy presided over the initiation of Captains Jeff Madera and Aaron Baldie.
DINNER PROGRAM: Representatives of the 520 “BetterBridge” effort explained their alternative plan for the proposed 520 Bridge work, and encouraged members to support the concept. Details can be found at BetterBridge.org.
Captains Bill Fields and Karin McLean presented information on the United States Power Squadron – its history, programs, and benefits. New educational / instructional programs are available, and the Club was encouraged to avail itself of them.
COMMODORE: Commodore Grimm reported on a burglary at Bremerton Yacht Club, and brazenly displayed the “loot.” He reminded members of the Mid-Sound cruise, beginning August 11, and invited Rear Commodore-elect Dale Roberts to discuss key activities planned for the July 4th weekend at Bainbridge. Last, he stated that the Architectural Advisory Committee was finalizing plans for the stone “paving project” at the main station.
OTHER REPORTS: Captain Tom Youngs reported that he was organizing a group discount diesel fuel purchase from Ballard Oil.
Fleet Captain Paul Grimm reported results of the Lake Washington Poker Run, and highlighted activities scheduled for the Mid-Sound Cruise, for which reservations are required.
Captain Robert Murphy noted that the RBAW Annual Meeting will be held November 4 at the QCYC Clubhouse.
Nadeane Rutledge reported that a sailing instructor, Jesse Hamilton, and an assistant, Kiel Johnson, have been hired for the summer program. 17 people have registered to date, and generous donations to the program have been made by Captain Gary and Barbara Stone (a new OPTI) and by Captain Bob and Joyce Brown (a rowing dinghy and future proceeds from the sale of the “Joyce B”).
Captain Dave Svendsen attended a fire protection session, and reminded attendees to at least semi-annually rotate / shake their fire exinguishers.
Past Tarette President Fran Farber presented the Commodore with a gift to thank him for his support during the past year.
Captain Tom Roth, sporting 25 staples in his head from a dinghy accident, reminded members to use the lanyard “kill switches” on their outboard motors.
Last, Commodore Grimm and P/C Krows recounted highlights of their recent trip to the Yacht Club de Monaco, with whom we have reciprocity.
RECEPTION: R/C McGillin again recognized P/C Wes Mauldin as the senior member in attendance; Captain Aaron Baldie was the junior member in attendance. 45 members were present along with several spouses and guests. Three Past Commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Jane Baldie pulled for Friday lunches, quarter pot, and a certificate for a weekend for two at Rosario Resort. Captains Dee Dee May and John Rogers won Friday lunches, Captain Paul Grimm won the quarter pot, and Captain Dee Dee Janel won the certificate for Rosario.
The meeting was adjourned at 2120 hours.
