Minutes of the Regular Meeting on March 12, 2008

CALL TO ORDER: Commodore McGillin called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.
 
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice-Commodore Roberts led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore Jennerich recognized Captain Bub Olsen, member no. one, as the senior member in attendance, and he was escorted to the chair of honor by member number two, Captain Ray Meyers. P/C Jeff Ewell recounted some history from the time of Captain Olsen’s initiation, 1949, through the early ‘50’s. 
 
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.
 
CORRESPONDENCE: None.
 
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: An application for membership was received from Captain Don Palmer.
 
COMMODORE: Commodore McGillin reported that on Tuesday, March 25, the men’s lunch group would be hosted on “No Court,” and that at the March 26 meeting the Seattle Yacht Club would be present to promote Opening Day events. He thanked Captains Randy Garvie and Peter Anderson for their help in the purchase and installation of new galley equipment for the Outstation, and P/C Dave Krows and Captain Dick Geving for their work in obtaining a commercial-size smoker for the Club.
 
The Commodore noted the AAC’s meeting the previous Monday, where among other matters entryway modifications were discussed. Last, he reported that Chaplain Ken Klett was recovering from kidney surgery, Captain George Austin from a broken vertebrae, and Geri Bell from a damaged eye socket from a fall at the Outstation.
 
VICE-COMMODORE: Vice Commodore Roberts reported that Waterfront Construction will be wrapping up its work, which is half completed, by end-week. He thanked those who put the bypass dock in place, and noted that Captains Art Mauldin and Rod Hilden have completed the Seattle Fire Code Compliance Plan. Last, he noted the April 5-6 Work Party at the Bainbridge Outstation.
 
REAR-COMMODORE: Rear-Commodore Jennerich reported that the April 26 Pride of Queen City work party will begin at 8:30 AM, and donations are welcome from those unable to help on site. He asked those who will be out of their slips during Opening Day events to let him know, and showed the parking passes to be mailed to members for parking lot access during the week.
 
TREASURER: Treasurer John Rogers summarized Club finances, which are sound. He acknowledged that about 18 members may have inadvertently received “late payment” notices, which will be rectified.
 
FLEET CAPTAIN: Fleet Captain Paul Grimm, attired in bright green garb, described the St. Patrick’s Day cruise to St. Andrew’s Bay, and included multiple mentions of “green beer.” He encouraged participation in Tacoma Yacht Club’s Daffodil event April 19-20, and asked participants to let him know so a spot can be reserved for their boat.  
 
COMMITTEE REPORTS
 
REGATTA POWER:    Captain Bob Lindal reported results of the Meydenbauer YC “Boomerang” race, in which the Club garnered two trophies. The Novice and Old Timer’s Race is scheduled for the following weekend, and there will be a class in the use of “Coastal Explorer” charting software on Wednesday, May 7.
 
The QCYC “Web Team,” Captains Kyle Bixby and Craig Ranta, demonstrated the new web site.
 
520 COMMITTEE: Captain Gary Stone reported that all-afternoon March 18 and 19 meetings have been scheduled to look for points of agreement on 520 options. Then, a supplemental Environmental Impact Statement will be submitted, and analyses will begin. There is much support for keeping the Bridge’s current footprint.
 
DOCKS: Captains Art Mauldin and Dave Svendsen reported that dock electrical connections are being inspected, and asked attendees to act if their electrical connections are hot to the touch.
 
MOORAGE: P/C Scott Grimm updated members on the status of slip usage and assignments, and asked those who will have available and those who want summer sublets to let the Committee know.
 
OTHER REPORTS:
 
Club Manager Captain Jess Hill showed members a stool sample (not THAT kind!). Captain Peter Anderson will obtain 12 bar stools for less than $1400, and he asked members to help keep them in good shape.
 
OLD BUSINESS: None.
 
NEW BUSINESS: None.
 
RECEPTION: V/C Roberts again recognized Captain Bub Olsen as the senior member in attendance and Captain Steve Coughlin as the junior member in attendance. 59 members were present, and 8 Past Commodores were present and recognized. 
 
QUARTER POT: Captain Virgil Fey pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Randy Garvie and Bruce Cullen won Friday lunches, and Captain Dave Enslow won the quarter pot.
 
The meeting was adjourned at 2117 hours.
