CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Grimm called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Rear Commodore McGillan led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as amended.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore McGillan recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance.
CORRESPONDENCE: None.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: An application from Captain Chuck Gould was read; Captain Gould was present and recognized.
COMMODORE: Commodore Grimm reported that a vessel recently came loose, and asked members to check their lines. He thanked Captain Randy White for the installation of a new (third) beer tap at the bar, which dispenses Drop Top Ale.
The Commodore reported that 10 mooring members do not have current Washington registration stickers, and they will be notified. A meeting the following Tuesday will discuss the fire vent project, expected to be a five-month exercise. Last, he reminded attendees of the March 26 “membership roundtable,” to begin at 1 PM, to solicit input regarding long-term planning issues for the Club.
REAR COMMODORE: Rear Commodore McGillan reported that over 60 of the concrete posts for the post & chain project were in the ground, and that the Queen City Pride work day has been scheduled for Saturday, April 22. He reported that an apparent lightening strike recently triggered the alarm system, which P/C Ewell graciously re-set at 2:30 in the morning.
Last, the Rear Commodore stated that the Bridge will be making a concerted effort to address unattended and poorly-maintained boats at the Club.
TREASURER: Treasurer Steve Farber reported that the Club is in good financial shape, and noted that information is on the web site. $82K have been spent YTD on capital improvements.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
REGATTA POWER: P/C Jeff Ewell reported results of Meydenbauer’s Boomerang Race, in which the Club on the team award. He noted upcoming races - the Novice & Old Timer’s Race on March 17-19, and the April 1st QCYC/SYC Eagle Harbor Race. He reminded attendees that those who participate in both the Race and the Outstation Work Party the following weekend will be allowed to leave their boats at the Outstation for the week. Captain Dave Padgett solicited observers for the Eagle Harbor Race.
FLEET CAPTAIN: Fleet Captain Paul Grimm, attired in garish green garb, reminded attendees of the March 17-18 St. Patrick’s Day cruise, and along with the Commodore sang what might have been called an Irish song.
MEMBERSHIP: Chairman Ed Jennerich reintroduced Captain Chuck Gould.
RBAW: Captain Ed Jennerich discussed Boaters’ Education and licensing requirements in Washington and British Columbia, as well as other B.C. boating-related info obtained at the most recent RBAW meeting.
OUTSTATION: Chairman Eric Wood reminded members of the April 8-9 work party.
OPENING DAY: Captain Jess Hill entertained attendees as he described the Steak, Scotch and Cigar Night event on Saturday night with 76 participants. He described the Friday night meal to be served on Opening Day weekend, which will include margarita slushies and a marimba band. To reinforce the marimba band aspect of the event, he played (over and over and over) some music out of a boombox that he apparently stole from some junior high school kid.
P/C Dave Krows, Opening Day Chairman, opined that as bad as the music was, it was better than P/C Wes Mauldin’s recent graphic description of how to conduct a prostate exam. He also described the major events scheduled for Opening Day weekend, beginning Wednesday evening.
OTHER: P/C Dave Krows reminded members of the March 31 Martini Magic event, for which a $15 prepayment is required.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: The Commodore reported that Captains Randy Jones and Peter Anderson had located two used ice machines for $700 for installation on the docks. Also, he reminded mooring members to check their dock lines, as the lake level is rising. Last, he stated that the Architectural Advisory Committee was looking into designs relative to personalized tiles for the 2nd level of the Clubhouse.
RECEPTION: R/C McGillan again recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance; Captain Chris Benson was the junior member in attendance. 45 members were present along with several spouses and guests. Six Past Commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Judy Wilson pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Paul Frodeson and John Fisher won Friday lunches, and Captain Lewis Titland won the quarter pot.
