CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Grimm called the meeting to order outside near the flagpole at 1930 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice Commodore Yates led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
90TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION: Commodore Grimm noted the 90th anniversary of the Club in brief prepared remarks, followed by a firing of the Club’s starting cannon. The meeting reconvened in the Clubhouse.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore McGillin recognized P/C Doug O’Brien as the senior member in attendance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.
CORRESPONDENCE: None.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: Applications were read from Captains Steve Linse, Judith Pippin, Geoffrey Stewart, and Larry Richards. All were present and recognized.
COMMODORE: Commodore Grimm reported on the well-attended and profitable Opening Day events, and described the Memorial Day event at Bainbridge Island, which will be family oriented and for which reservations will be required. He noted that an application of milfoil removal product was made on May 9, with three more expected, and that he and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees met with the principals behind the 520 Bridge “Pacific Street Option,” which will be explored further.
Further, the Commodore reminded attendees of the Big Brother Cruise, to be hosted at the Bainbridge Outstation June 24-25 by the Bremerton Yacht Club. Those members who participate in the Cruise will be allowed to leave their boat unattended for the week if they also participate in the Club’s July 4th event.
VICE COMMODORE: Vice Commodore Yates thanked those who helped put on a successful Junior Officer’s Ball, and stated that the fire vent project on the docks is being led by Captain Rod Hillman. He asked those who have special budget considerations for ’06-’07 to forward their input now, as planning will begin soon for next year.
REAR COMMODORE: Rear Commodore McGillin thanked Captains Jim
Damery and Dick Geving for their roles in helping over 90 guest boats during Opening Day weekend, and thanked P/C Krows and other key participants for putting on a successful event.
TREASURER: Treasurer Steve Farber reported that financials are on-plan, $340K has been moved into higher interest-bearing accounts, and 20 people are not current with their April 1 bills. He thanked Captain Bill Fields and his crew of Opening Day weekend ticket sellers for their work and their quick accounting of the results.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES: Chairman Gary Stone reported that volunteers are needed for the refurbishing of the July 4 Outstation “boat float,” that P/C Jeff Ewell is heading an Audit Committee review of various Club procedures, and that expanded facility use rules are being explored.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
FLEET CAPTAIN: Fleet Captain Paul Grimm reminded attendees of the June 17 Lake Washington Poker Run, the June 24-25 Big Brothers Cruise at the Bainbridge Outstation, and the August 11-20 Mid-Sound Cruise. He reported that there were so many opportunities to hand out Screw-up Flags during Opening Day weekend that a committee has been formed to determine the proper recipients.
REGATTA POWER: P/C Jeff Ewell noted the upcoming Rainier/Poulsbo race and the July 15 ICR event at Maple Bay.
MEMBERSHIP: Chairman Ed Jennerich reported that the Club is close to achieving its target of 30 new members for the year.
HOUSE: Captain Jim Damery reported that the trash containers have been moved, and reminded members to recycle.
OPENING DAY: Captain Jess Hill reported that 456 meals were served on Friday night, and thanked his 27 helpers.
NOMINATIONS FOR ’06-’07: P/C Rich McCroskey re-introduced the ’06-’07 slate of candidates and asked for nominations from the floor. There being none, the nominations were unanimously accepted by the members present and the nominations were closed.
FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL: Captain Bill Buller noted the May 19 Ragbagger’s Ball, which is to have a Caribbean theme and prizes for dressing to that theme.
TARETTES: P/C Dick Spence, on behalf of the Tarettes, noted the June 4 Dock Party, to start at noon. Bring items to sell – the Tarettes commission will be 10%; there will be complimentary hot dogs mid-day and a burger bash in the evening.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
RECEPTION: R/C McGillin again recognized P/C Doug O’Brien as the senior member in attendance; Captain Gregg Scott was the junior member in attendance. 51 members were present along with several spouses and guests. Eight Past Commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Dorothy Cooper pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Steve Swingler and Dave Padgett won Friday lunches, and Captain Ed Allison won the quarter pot.
