CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Yates called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice-Commodore McGillin led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore Roberts recognized P/C Lynn Montgomery as the senior member in attendance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as amended.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read letters of resignation from Captains David Richdale, Ron Ostrowski, and Tom Waugh, as well as a thank-you letter from Captain Jan Stephens regarding use of the clubhouse for his daughter’s wedding and reception.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: An application was received from Captain Jim Hess, who was present and recognized.
COMMODORE: Commodore Yates reported that the insurance company check for the damaged entrance gate was expected soon, and noted that on December 13 there will be a special election for a new Board member – Captain Mark Weiss has been nominated by the Nominating Committee. He reported on a successful Kingston Apple Cup Cruise, with about 30 attendees from each club present.
Last, the Commodore noted some upcoming events – the Christmas decorating party, the Tarette’s Captain’s Dinner, and the Lighted Boat Parade.
VICE-COMMODORE: Vice Commodore McGillin requested members’ assistance in working with the Docks Committee – those interested should contact Captains Dave Svendsen or Tom Youngs. He discussed efforts to deal with “storage” boats, and stated that Francisco will be spending a few extra hours weekly to help keep things orderly.
REAR-COMMODORE: Rear Commodore Roberts reported that the Clubhouse will be closed November 25 for carpet cleaning, and stated that the Club still needs a Grounds Chairman.
TREASURER: Treasurer John Rogers summarized electrical bills that the club pays – about $7K for the house and $43K for the docks, and about $9K at Bainbridge, last year. He noted that Captain Pete Clark, who reads the meters at the main station, could use some help.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
CLUB MANAGER: Captain Jess Hill reported that the Bartender’s Permit class is scheduled for December 4, and reminded all that Willie will be open on Sundays during football season. He stated that there will be a bar upstairs (on the 3rd floor) in the future for those who rent the facilities.
DOCKS: Captain Tom Youngs reported that work will be conducted on December 19 – volunteers can sign up downstairs.
OTHER:
Captain Youngs updated members on the Special People’s Cruise – 29 boats were signed up so far, and more would be helpful. Captain Paul Grimm will be corralling about 10 SeaFair clowns to help entertain the guests.
Captain Youngs reported that 30 boats have signed up to purchase about 12,000 gallons of diesel from Ballard Oil, as soon as prices begin to drop.
Captain Al Reiche noted the upcoming Lighted Boat Parade, to start at 6PM both days.
Captain Gary Stone reported that the 520 Committee has drafted a mission statement, the objective of which is to “preserve” the Club, both during and after the 520 Expansion project.
P/C Larry Chmela reminded members of the New Year’s extravaganza, for which reservations are required.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
RECEPTION: R/C Roberts, after masterfully naming the entire house (including guests) recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance and Captain Aaron Baldie as the junior member in attendance. 42 members were present with several guests. Five past commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Prospective member Jim Hess pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Denny Roehl and Paul Grimm won Friday lunches, and Captain Don Wilson won the quarter pot.
GOOD & WELFARE: Captain Jess Hill humiliated prospective member Jim Hess and P/C Scott Grimm.
The meeting was adjourned at 2032 hours, two minutes too late for the Secretary’s public show of affection to the Commodore.
